A recent wedding from the Bridge Hotel in Wetherby (near Leeds) by Simon Cardwell

For the second time in a matter of months I found myself at the Bridge Hotel in Wetherby. I shot a fun wedding there on New Year’s Eve & while the weather wasn’t great either time, its a good spot to shoot a wedding.

As usual I started with the bridal preparations:

From there it was onto the ceremony. I say this a lot, but I always hope the ceremony is taking place in a room with high ceilings & lots of natural light coming in. The Bridge has both:

It was very cold outside so we didn’t shoot many bride & groom portraits on this occasion. The couple preferred to stay indoors & mingle with their guests. In that situation I go with the flow & concentrate more on the natural reportage photographs rather than poses.

The couple’s son was a big part of the wedding day:

I said the same when I posted this photo to my Instagram on the wedding day & I will reiterate it here: it isn’t every day you see a couple wearing pants masks anywhere, let alone a wedding.

An unlikely photo such as this can provide a quirky image:

A recent wedding at Walworth Castle Hotel, Darlington, County Durham by Simon Cardwell

This week I would like to share with you a wedding from a few weeks ago at a venue I work at quite regularly. Walworth Castle is only a few miles outside of my hometown of Darlington & is somewhere I have been going since I was a child.

This is the room where the ceremony takes place, when I was younger I think this room was a bar:

When a picture like this presents itself you have to be quick to grab it:

I didn’t photograph the full getting ready on this occasion so we are onto the ceremony quicker than usual:

This completely unexpected photo turned out to be my favourite of 2019 so far & one I plan to enter into the Wedding Photojournalist Association monthly photo contests:

It was an extremely windy day so the bride & groom portraits mostly took place indoors. Luckily there are enough places at Walworth Castle to do a full shoot:

Although I did persuade the couple to nip outside for a couple of shots:

I thought long & hard about photoshopping out that Fire Exit sign. Ultimately I decided to leave it as it was, because that was how it looked on the day:

Wedding Photography from Rushpool Hall near Saltburn by Simon Cardwell

Here is a selection from a recent wedding at Rushpool Hall near Saltburn. This is a venue I have frequented over the years, and I have always liked it for its beautiful seaside location & expansive grounds.

There are so many options here for photographs, you can wander deep into the grounds or if it is cold or wet you can stay close to the main building & still use a number of great backdrops.

Wedding Photography in a rural church & farm by Simon Cardwell

Today I would like to show you some photographs from the first wedding I photographed in 2018.

Taking place on a rurally located church meant the mud & damp ground was a factor but also presented some interesting photographs.

Here is a selection of the ceremony (before & immediately after) only. I think there are some very unique pictures here that I don't often get the chance to take:

This is a hotel I visited often as a child with my family, so its always good to go back to shoot a wedding.
